G is for Groom's Cake

5. IT'S TRADITION

Imagine for a moment you are a single lady attending a wedding.  At the end of the beautiful event you are handed a slice of the Groom's Cake to take home.  After arriving home, you place the slice under your pillow, go to sleep and magically dream of your future husband.

This is just what people did for hundreds of years. Groom's Cakes started in Britian and became a staple in the American South.  Somewhere along the line the Bride's Cake (usually Vanilla) and the Groom's Cake (usually Chocolate) merged into just a Wedding Cake.

This outdated practice is kinda crazy, but so are the origin of most of our popular traditions.

4. IT'S TRENDY

Celebrity Chefs and Bakers are the Rock Stars of our time. Everyone is gaga over edible works of art.  This trend is decedant, thoughtful and customizable which makes it the perfect addition to any wedding. Talented artist, such as Duff from Ace of Cakes, can take literally anything and turn it into a cake.

We are not embarrassed to say this is one band wagon we have completely jumped on!

3. MORE FLAVORS MORE FUN

Have your heart set on a Banana Pecan Raspberry Swirl cake even though you know lots of your guests would prefer Vanilla? A second cake is a great way to appease different preferences.  Although it is the Brides big day make sure you have something yummy for the Groom and Family Members.

2. YOU JUST LOVE (insert your thing) SO MUCH YOU HAVE TO ACKNOWLEDGE IT AT THE WEDDING

Lots of couples have a quirky or ecstatic trait that bonds them together, so include it in your big day!

Pretend you are both huge Cowboy Fans.  Maybe your first date was to a Cowboy's game, you two bond every Sunday while cheering for Romo, and your fiance even proposed on the 50 yard line.
This love for the Cowboys that has helped mold your relationship and you need a way to incorporate it without being tacky.  This is where including a Groom's Cake can let you push the envelope a little with out bringing down the classy feel of the event.

1. MAKE YOUR MAN SMILE

Tackle Box and a Great Catch by Charm City Cakes

This man has dealt with months of discussing flower arrangements, going to tux fittings, pretending to be interested in seating chart discussions and countless other hours helping to make sure the day is as beautiful as you always imagined.  In the middle of all the pearls, diamonds, baby's breath and sparkle give him a cake that is truly him.  Take this opportunity to include a special touch that will make him smile.

*The Bridal Encyclopedia Tip of the Day*

Lots of couples feel it is too much to have two cakes at one Wedding. Even though the Bride wants to honor her Groom, she wants the dessert spotlight to be on the main Wedding Cake.

No problem!

Still get a Groom's Cake and present it as a surprise at the Rehearsal Dinner.  Having this personal gesture the night before can put him in a great mindset for the next day.

Did you have a Groom's Cake at your Wedding?  What flavor would your significant other want? What would your groom go crazy over?
